Yesterday I said I was looking at E46's, while looking I found a mint looking !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! It's not as much car (in numbers) as a ZHP, but lots more in character.
It already had nice nice parts: Hella Rally light, Euro spec headlights & corner lights, mudflaps, & a SS exhaust.
The asking price is $7400cad, & it has 200k kms.
Of course for me it need to be a manual. It also does come with winter tires, so I don’t need to buy some.
Looking at other used Jukes with similar mileage & condition I could list it for what I owe on the loan, then get a small loan for the Audi. I take a hit in fuel economy, but the monthly payments be cheaper & so would the insurance. It’s a terrible idea, but oppo is built on bad ideas.

Buy a 90s Audi for financial reasons? lol didn’t CoFL already post about this today?
100% Oppo idea right there.

Sadly it’s probably still cheaper than a monthly car payment.....

Also very cool cars. As a hopeless old Audi nerd and owner, I approve. These coupe quattros are good fun for the money. They’re cheaper in the US, perhaps. Also I did a lot of work on this car with a great friend who owned it at the time (also a friend of Lars Wolfe’s, for your particular Jukist information, he worked on the car too ;) ) , so I’m biased.

I do recall Lars doing some work on that car.

If only he did not blow up the Juke.

Maybe if you have handy friends..
Otherwise the audi factor hasn’t been accounted for in the equation. Audi in the 90s wasn’t known for reliability. Take all the crappy electronic problems of the Passat and multiply it by 10, then throw in the ‘weird 2.3L’, plus add the expense of ‘luxury’ parts. Good luck driving up to a today audi dealer with that car.. They would be as uncomfortable as you are trying to fix it.
There is a reason you see these fully restored by rich guys on Petrolicious, and it’s not because they are cheap affordable options.
CK would be way further
ahead buying a mk3/mk4 J
etta for $2K and spending
the next 8 years
driving it into the ground..

A well sorted example of these b3s is almost bulletproof. The fully galvanized body should have no rust at all, the driveline can take more power than the stock engines deliver and there aren’t that many electronic parts to go wrong.

Cool car that you don’t really see anymore.
Too bad we never got the S2 in the US . Although, you can import one now since they are over 25 years old.

Yeah that was a serious bummer. We all wondered what the limits of that engine were, guess he found them.

This is a good car if you want to go take it to car shows (HELLO RADWOOD~) and do weekend drives no matter the weather. This is not a good car if you want to do track days, autocrosses, and etc. It’s heavy, complicated, and probably not easy/cheap to find parts for.
I know you don’t want a Miata (if you can’t fit inside then I understand) but they’re the best cars to abuse for auto-x and trackdays while on a budget . Our SCCA region is starting to bloom again with them because a lot of guys with muscle/pony cars and a guy with an imported Lancia HF Integrale are realizing it’s a lot less painful to buy tires and parts for Miatas than their current cars. Our SOLO chairman actually blew up his ‘99 Miata motor on its last run at the last autocross of the season. He’s 100% fine with it because, in his words, “It’ll cost me a thousand dollars to fix this. The LS2 in my GTO would cost me thousands .”

i would normally encourage bad decisions, but with an Audi or any VAG vehicle - please just don’t do it
